    Scanning nozzle plating system

    Get PDF
A plating system is described in which a substrate to be plated is supported on a stationary platform. A nozzle assembly with a small nozzle is supplied with a plating solution under high pressure, so that a constant-flow stream of solution is directed to the substrate. The nozzle assembly is moved relative to the substrate at a selected rate and movement pattern. A potential difference (voltage) is provided between the substrate and the solution in the assembly. The voltage amplitude is modulated so that only when the amplitude is above a minimum known value plating takes place

Bounds for DNA codes with constant GC-content

We derive theoretical upper and lower bounds on the maximum size of DNA codes of length n with constant GC-content w and minimum Hamming distance d, both with and without the additional constraint that the minimum Hamming distance between any codeword and the reverse-complement of any codeword be at least d. We also explicitly construct codes that are larger than the best previously-published codes for many choices of the parameters n, d and w.Comment: 13 pages, no figures; a few references added and typos correcte

Reference Points and the Theory of the Firm

In this article I argue that it has been hard to make progress on Coase's theory of the firm agenda because of the difficulty of formalizing haggling costs. I propose an approach that tries to move things forward using the idea of aggrievement costs, and apply it to the question of whether a transaction should be placed inside a firm (in-house production) or in the market place (outsourcing).

Parabolic Flows Renormalized by Partially Hyperbolic Maps

We consider parabolic flows on 3-dimensional manifolds which are renormalized by circle extensions of Anosov diffeormorphisms. This class of flows includes nilflows on the Heisenberg nilmanifold which are renormalized by partially hyperbolic automorphisms. The transfer operators associated to the renormalization maps, acting on anisotropic Sobolev spaces, are known to have good spectral properties (this relies on ideas which have some resemblance to representation theory but also apply to non-algebraic systems). The spectral information is used to describe the deviation of ergodic averages and solutions of the cohomological equation for the parabolic flow.Comment: Comments welcom
